A discreet application of wood doesn't detract from the intensely floral and notably elegant red berry fruit and earth-inflected aromas. There is really lovely richness and volume to the caressing medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the balanced, complex and wonderfully persistent finale. Deep ruby-red. Aromas of dark berries, bitter chocolate and licorice complicated by a strong violet character and a honeyed nuance. Plush and sweet on entry, then round, fat and seamless in the middle. Tightens up a bit on the finish, displaying more obvious oak influence than the Lavaux-Saint-Jacques, but this harmonious grand cru shows classy tannins. (ST) - VM

Utilizing around 40% whole bunch fruit, the 2014 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru has a comparatively rich bouquet with layers of macerated red cherry fruit mixed with blueberry, the new oak coming through in pronounced fashion. The palate is sweet on the entry with grainy tannin, red cherries and wild strawberry, as well as a touch of orange rind with a spice note towards the structured finish that is Mazoyères-like in style.
